Thanks again for sharing your tips and tricks. Restrictions will probably still apply but at least it won't be brown Cape Town in Summer. At least our dams are approaching 50% again - and with any luck we could get over 60% before winter ends. Yes, this weather is terrible - and VERY welcome. Not that I know jack - but this has been an education so far - lots of research and learning from awesome people sharing! Heading to Ballots in mid August and will be trying then.

CASTMASTER 80 ROD CRACKER

Redbait brings in lots of fish and crackers - then you feed them cracker only bait. Apparently the switch over trick produces results. Then after a few throws I will be switching to rock baits. I'm going to try on a 3/0 big gun - same hook as I will be using with Gallies for redbait bombs.

And thanks Lenny for the Rods Up tip - I will keep that in mind if it all works out for me. I read somewhere that if you can hold on and just keep him from spooling you, you stand a better chance. I recon I'm more of a "hou vas" kinda guy - I think I would prefer to tire it out than actively bully it on medium tackle. Landing that big one was epic, but the one on the same tackle that didnt even slow down with my drag on max till the hooklink popped the previous year makes me stay awake at night. Having been in all types of mortal danger, doing all kinds of crazy stuff, there is no greater buzz i've felt than a cracker going 0-100 with you in under 0.5 seconds and you reel in a straightened hook. I can remember the lucky moments i had with every decent cracker i've landed, and also every mistake i made or moment i was unlucky on light medium and heavy tackle. You might need a bit more luck, but fortune favours the brave. So lenny has a great point, use what you have. I have had this fight with shark anglers a lot. my first big one was on a mustad demon finewire, although i think that the rod was in a pipe and it only realised it was hooked far out, with a beach and only some scattered reef helped a lot. There is a picture of Wikus aka Galjoen floating around the interweb with a beautiful cracker on gallie tackle. do all the things right and you'll still pray now and then. Make no mistake as with ANY fishing, luck will play a role.
